The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce met for their March meeting at Perry City Hall, Tuesday, March 13th. The meeting was called to order at 5 pm by chamber president Bob Stevener. Those in attendance included, Danette Henderson, Dana Stevener, Ron Leake, Dustin Wasson and Fred Omer.
Meeting minutes from the chamber’s past meeting were approved. The treasurer’s report was given and was approved.
In new business, the chamber discussed purchasing new Easter Bunny and Santa Claus costumes. A motion was made by Dana Stevener and second by Dustin Wasson to purchase a new Easter bunny costume. The motion passed. This year’s Easter egg hunt will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, April 7th at Bill Trower Memorial Park in Perry.
The chamber set their 2012 event schedule which includes the spring all-town yards sales on Saturday, May 26th; Fourth of July Celebration on Wednesday, July 4th; Perry Cruise Night on Saturday night, August 18th; Garden Tractor Pull in September; fall all-town yard sales on Saturday, October 6th and Christmas in Perry on Saturday, December 1st.
The chamber plans to recognize several new businesses in April.
Dustin Wasson announced that he has re-launched a new design of the chamber’s website, perrymissouri.com. It now includes videos and a photo gallery. Since the website was originally developed in 2004, the site has had over 28,000 visitors.
Fred Omer discussed the possibility of placing geocaching sites around Perry. The sport continues to thrive and several geocache locations can be found around Mark Twain Lake. Omer said he would do some checking on how to register the possible sites with the national geocaching website. The chamber advised Omer to also bring this to the city council meeting. The chamber and Omer believe this could draw a new group of individuals to the area.
The chamber discussed purchasing more brochures. Wasson said he would bring a new design to the April meeting.
The yearly insurance for the chamber is due at the end of the March. Ron Leake made a motion to re-new the insurance. Second was made by Dana Stevener. Motion passed. The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 pm.
Storm season is here, this spring the Perry Chamber of Commerce wants to make sure you are prepared when storms are around the corner. The City of Perry storm siren will sound 1 long blast for imminent storms or other emergencies. Emergency shelters are located at Perry City Hall during business hours, Perry Christian Academy gymnasium and church basements.
